 Power 88 16 years ago
WBHY FM POWER 88 swept onto the Gulf Coast in 1992. The bottom of the FM dial now blasted the top message on radio: God’s great love and offer of salvation.

Meet the Goforth Media Staff

Wilbur Goforth
President / General Manager

A listener writes "I love Power 88 it has totally changed my life It has brought me so much closer to the Lord." Another writes "The music you guys play lifts me up and I don't know what I would do without it. Power 88 is definitely a light in our dark world." Letters like these make life more exciting every day working in Christian radio.

Our supporters are the ones that make these life changing testimonies possible.

Christian radio is a gift worth sharing.

Robert Barber
Operations Manager

It is an awesome privilege to see and hear the results of Christian Radio in our community. Through letters and e-mails we receive personal testimonies everyday from individuals whose lives have been dramatically changed or touched in some way by hearing God’s word on one of our three stations.
Whether a person prefers great Biblical Teaching, good Solid Gospel music, or the latest in Contemporary Christian Music, we have a station for them.
I consider it a blessing to be part of such a ministry that reaches so many people with the word of God through word and song everyday.

Charlie Smith
Marketing Director

I am in my 15th year with Goforth Media (G/M). Prior to coming here in 1993 my 26 years in sales prepared me for the work I feel God called me to do. We have seen some changes in the staff as some come and then move on to other positions but every person that has worked at G/M has really been called to their position. Working with this staff and helping in marketing and underwriting on our 3 stations is a joy. I work to promote concerts and seek out funds for daily operation through advertising on both AM station and the Underwriting program on POWER 88. Doing something you love is the greatest joy you can have. My daily routine involves working with church pastor’s, and secretaries, promoters of Christian concerts and Christian business owners. The pleasure is in knowing you have done something to keep God message on the air. There is a verse I learned years ago; II Corinthians 5:20 (NIV). It says "We are ambassadors for Christ, and God is using us to speak to you." Are you blessed by the message and music you hear on any of the Goforth Media station write us a letter or e-mail and tell us. We love to hear from our listeners. Charlie

Kenny Fowler
Afternoon Drive Power 88/ Music Director

Hey! I'm the afternoon drive Show host and Music Director for Power 88. In addition to working at the station, I am also a youth minister at a church in Oyster Bay, Alabama. I'd like to thank all of the listeners who have called or emailed in encouragement to the staff at Power 88 and Goforth Media. We love to hear how God has used this ministry for HIS (and not our) Glory! Feel free to contact us if you ever need a song title or artist of a particular song you've heard on Power 88. We can't promise that we'll find it immediately, but we'll do our best! Also let us know what you think about the music you hear on Power 88. What would you like to hear more or less of? We are YOUR home for today's Christian music so let us know what you want!

Alice Chateau
Power 88 Saturday DJ

There is no doubt in my mind that God has a clear purpose and plan for each one of us, and that when we discover that plan, and live it, we find the illusive "reason to get up in the morning", day after day, everyday, that never gets old. It's genuine fulfillment for our existence, because it's what we were born to be, what we were created to do., which is exactly how I feel about what I do at Power 88.

It began when I sat down in front of my first radio station microphone at age 18, although admittedly at that time the things of God were far from my mind. In His infinite mercy, however, He dealt with me over time about that. So here I am; over three decades (and many radio stations) later, a total mess cleaned up by God's amazing grace, doing what He gave me a passion for doing - talking about Him, and music! Together! For His glory! How awesome is that?!

I am thrilled to have been an announcer with Power 88 since Sign On Day, March 21, 1992, and I am truly thankful for the opportunity I've been given by this ministry through the years to bless and be blessed. That's the plan. That's my purpose. Thanks for listening....Trust God - Do Good. (Ps. 37 vs. 3)

Matthew Lynn
Power 88 Morning Drive

"Hi! I'm the morning DJ here on Power 88. It is amazing to see how God's plan for your life can be at work all around you - yet you never understand it until later. In December of '07 I started as an intern and never knew that I would eventually have the privilege of becoming the morning drive host! This ministry is a wonderful opportunity to use the gifts that God has given me to glorify Him and uplift each listener. Our God is so powerful and amazing . I am honored to be a part of a ministry that glorifies His name. How blessed to be part of the Power 88 team. I am excited to see what God has in store for the future!"

Sandy  McQurter
Power 88 DJ

My adventure in radioland began at the age of 18. It was just WBHY-AM at that time. I was a senior in High School, worked an office job in the afternoons, and volunteered at the radio station on weekends. I did primarily production work, and occasionally filled in for announcers who needed to be off. When fall came, I took over the Saturday Morning Sign-On shift. With the celebration of a new year came preparations for Power 88 to make its debut to the airwaves. By March 1992 we were broadcasting the "GOOD NEWS" via contemporary Christian music along the Gulf Coast. My first go at FM radio also began then with my voice gracing the airwaves on the Sunday afternoon shift. Our 1st summer on the air I was given the opportunity to be the Morning Show Gal, which is quite amusing since I am NOT a morning person. Of course, that may explain why I was offered the chance to switch to the afternoon shift that Fall.

Commander Chuck
Power 88 traffic

Commander Chuck takes to the skies weekdays to give you the latest in traffic situations with Skywatch Traffic. Chuck helps you find out what's happening on the streets. Commander Chuck is the area's only airplane pilot/helicopter pilot/reporter. He became an airplane pilot in 1992 and a helicopter pilot in 2001. Chuck is very passionate about a program called the "Sky's Not The Limit" School Program. This is where he lands a helicopter at local Elementary and Middle Schools to talk with kids about staying in school and off drugs.

Chuck says "My biggest regret in life is that I never finished becoming an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts of America."

Keeping you informed of any potential problems that might be up ahead...It's Commander Chuck with Skywatch Traffic on Power 88.

Dr. Rick Cagle
Broadcaster/Advisory Board

Working in association with Goforth Media and the 3 stations has become one of the highpoints of my life. My ministry (Evergreen Mnistries) has become like a sister ministry to this great organization and I love the people, the mission, and the medium of radio. I wish you could see as I do just how committed and loving this group is, they are the best! They are wonderful examples of responsible and Godly Christian service at its best. Our area is most fortunate to have this quality and vision among us.

Pray for us in the days ahead that we may continue to be all God has created us to be to His glory.

Yours in Christ, Rick Cagle

Kristi Wallace
AM Announcer

Hi! I'm one of the AM announcers here at the station. I also do traffic logs, program downloading, daily recording, and editing of audio for all three stations. Words cannot even describe how wonderful it is to be a part of this ministry here at Goforth Media. It is amazing to see and hear the ways God is using these stations to encourage and uplift the listeners. What a joy it is to leave work each day knowing God may have used you in some way to minister to others! Keep praying for us and thanks for listening!!

Kevin Thomson
AM Announcer

After 17-years in secular radio, I have been blessed with the opportunity to change lives along the Gulf Coast through the airwaves of Goforth Media's radio ministry. Broadcasting what God is doing and has done and what He will do with the teachings of WBHY-AM 840 and with the classic Southern Gospel Music on WLPR-AM 960, has made my life a lot more enjoyable and less stressful!

The staff of Goforth Media, my co-workers, are a group of compassionate, faith-filled people, making this work and even the drive from Mobile to our new studios in Spanish Fort a lot more enjoyable.

Thank-you for listening! Thank-you for contributing and remember, "It's easier to build a child than to repair an adult!"

Mornings 5 to 6 AM

Hear Doug & Kim weekdays 5-6 AM on Power 88

Jean Williams
Bookkeeper / Announcer

My first real introduction to Christian radio, except for listening to “Southern Gospel” music sometimes, was as a bookkeeper for Mr. Goforth at another radio station. When he left that station and purchased WBHY-AM 840, I found out that he needed a bookkeeper, so I applied for the job and was hired…that was in May of 1986.

It has been a rewarding and exciting experience through the years as I have seen God’s hand in everything that has been accomplished at Goforth Media. God has proved sooo faithful in helping us to be able to do things that was needed to provide Christian programs and music to our listeners. My prayer is that Goforth Media, Inc will continue to grow according to God’s will and plan so that many more souls can be reached with the Gospel Message.

Tiffany Winterstein

Hi. I am Tiffany and I work at Goforth Media as an operator and announcer on WBHY-AM 840 and WLPR-AM 960. I have listened to Power 88 since I was about 14-years old. I called and talked to Sandy all the time. This ministry has been a huge blessing my life and helped me throughout my teen years, and it still continues helping me today! Now I have the privilege of being behind the scenes and working here! I am so glad to be a part of such an awesome ministry. I love hearing how much of a blessing it has been to others and I'm very glad to be working with everyone here at Goforth Media.

Annie Smith
Public Service Director

I started working at Goforth Media, Inc as a volunteer before I became a member of the staff. I enjoyed coming to help mail the newsletter and got more involved in the ministry of the station. There was a need for someone to answer the telephone in the afternoons, since I was going to be retiring from BellSouth the Holy Spirit impressed me to do this.

Since coming on staff I enjoy helping with other chores that need to be done around the station. I have helped with concerts by getting the volunteers to help. What ever the Lord has for me to do each day, I enjoy seeing what is being done to minister to the community through this ministry.

Bob Sherling
Board of Directors/Attorney

Desmond Toler
Attorney / Advisory Board

"I have had the privilege of serving as legal counsel for Goforth Media for about 5 years. It has been a blessing to be able to assist a ministry that is reaching many people over a wide area with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Wilbur Goforth has been a delight to work with and it is exciting to assist him with the vision that the Lord has given him about Christian radio ministry in the Gulf Coast area.

I have been a practicing attorney in Mobile for about 35 years. My practice primarily deals with the unique legal problems that may face the typical family, such as divorce, child custody, child support, juvenile, real estate, probate, wills, trusts, criminal and personal injury. I also assist churches with the unique legal problems that most churches encounter in today's society."

Jeanne Anderson

I've had the joy and privilege of providing tax and accounting services to Goforth Media for several years. Working with their knowledgeable personnel has been a pleasure.
